Service Description
Workshops are geared towards adults ages 16+ We'll meet at some Bend local park pavilions + Picnic tables (or inside a library classroom if needed for bad weather days) Monday evenings for various lengths of time, all between 5-8pm... See schedule below. Locations will be emailed to you in the weeks before class. There is an abundance of plant life all around us: from your backyard to the backcountry. This class is a dive into plants and some ways we can utilize them respectfully for medicine and food. We'll dive into some medicine preparations, identification, ethical harvest and use, and have some sessions involving cooking and/or eating wild foods. Each meeting will hold a mini-lesson and a hands-on field portion OR a hands-on making session. Meeting 1: Plants + People + Plant Walk; Ethnobotanical Histories, Ethical & Safe harvest & use, and a native plant walk focused on ethnobotany. Wild refreshments provided. Meeting 2: Medicine Types Overview + Plant-Based Skin Care Ideas and recipes. Take home a topical herbal remedy! Meeting 3: Color Coaxing: Plant dyes. Each person will dye and take home a silk or cotton scarf. Meeting 4: Tinctures, Tincture blends, and Vinegars. We'll learn extraction methods of plant constituents in various mediums for internal use. Hands-on practice and sampling included! Meeting 5: "Nettles + More"; Ancient, World-wide staple for food, medicine, and fiber arts. We'll learn about this friend, process, and craft with them. Meeting 6: Memorial Day! 5:30-8 Honey ferments, Water Based medicines, and Yummy wild drink recipe ideas! ****Also...Earlier Afternoon Optional Memorial Day outing Hike w/ Van transport to a local plant hike spot (within an hour of Bend). Time will depend on the class's interest and availability!*** Meeting 7: Wild cooking + Celebrations: Learn to prepare some wild foods and eat wild foods together and bring some creations to share if you have them! We'll ad lib on some of the topics or swap them around based on weather and/or class needs. Excited for this new offering! Registration is for all classes. Only 8 spaces available.

Nighthawk doesn't guarantee refunds. They are not typical and fully depend on our ability to fill the spot. If we are able to fill your spot after your cancellation, a future class credit will be issued. If Nighthawk cancels a whole course, participants will be credited for a future course if rescheduling isn't possible. Partial course cancellations/adjustments/reschedules due to inclement weather, etc. are not typically credited.
